This Davis County Health Department is responsible for the surveillance of reportable diseases, the investigation and control of communicable diseases, and provision of educational materials and services to assist communities in reducing the incidence of communicable diseases.
The goal of epidemiology is to prevent and control the spread of communicable diseases in Davis County by:
Conducting active and passive surveillance
Monitoring the occurrence and severity of infectious diseases
Identifying and controlling outbreaks through:
Complete and timely investigations
Interruption of disease transmission (i.e. isolation and quarantine)
Assurance and/or administration of prophylactics (i.e. vaccination, antibiotics.)
Education to prevent reoccurrence
Educating the public and healthcare professionals about infectious diseases
Collaborating with communities and other partners to plan, implement and evaluate science-based strategies to prevent infectious diseases
Coordinating surveillance and control efforts for all infectious diseases of public health importance
Providing public health assistance/intervention 24 hours a day / 7 days a week
