Library Use Survey

About the Survey

Purpose

The Library Use Survey is the newest tool in the Davis County Library’s ongoing efforts to ensure the library is relevant to Davis County citizens. We are committed to making sure that tax dollars spent on libraries are tax dollars well spent.

Scope & Content

The Library welcomes feedback from all Davis County Library residents; the survey was designed for both those who use the library and those who do not. We want feedback from as many residents who do not use the library as possible so that we can increase our relevance to the public.

Survey data to be collected includes information about physical and electronic use of library services, collections, and programming. Those interested are asked to respond to a series of 10 questions. Those filling out the survey do not need to answer all questions.

Distribution

The Library Use Survey will be made available in the following ways:

  • Library Website & Catalog - Visitors to the library website will be invited to participate in the survey via a link to the survey, links will be also be located throughout the site and on library catalogs in each location. Those signing up for public Internet use will also see an invitation to participate when they bring up a web browser.

  • Library Branches -Library staff will invite visitors to library branches to participate in the survey by using a tablet device. Paper surveys will be made available upon request.

  • Off-Site Locations - the Library will provide off-site survey sign-up at the Davis County Fair wireless networks with tablets (in the same manner as at library branches). The Library may make the survey available at other off-site locations as opportunities present themselves to gain feedback from as many Davis County residents as possible.

Review

Survey data will be reviewed by a committee consisting of two Davis County Library Board Members, the  Library Director, both Deputy Directors, a Branch Librarian, and a Davis County Employee not affiliated with the Library. All data will be reviewed. Data gathered from Davis County residents will be given priority because they are taxed to support the library. The committee will create a document summarizing its findings; this document will be made available to the public upon request.

Common Questions

Why is the Library conducting a Survey?

The Library Use Survey is the newest tool in the Davis County Library’s ongoing efforts to ensure the library is relevant to Davis County citizens. We are committed to making sure that tax dollars spent on libraries are tax dollars well spent.

Why should I take the survey if I don’t use the library?

The Library welcomes feedback from all Davis County Library residents; the survey was designed for both those who use the library and those who do not. We want feedback from as many residents who do not use the library as possible so that we can increase our relevance to the public.

What if I am not a Davis County Resident?

While all data will be consulted, data gathered from Davis County residents will be given priority because they are taxed to support the library.

Can I take the survey more than once?

Please take the survey only once. Taking the survey more than once will skew survey results.

How will the results be used?

Survey data will be reviewed by a committee consisting of two Davis County Library Board Members, the Library Director, both Deputy Directors, a Branch Librarian, and a Davis County Employee not affiliated with the Library. All data will be reviewed. Data gathered from Davis County residents will be given priority because they are taxed to support the library. The committee will create a document summarizing its findings; this document will be made available to the public upon request.

Why isn’t there a place to put my name?

Survey results are intended to be anonymous. With an anonymous survey, the Library hopes that citizens will feel comfortable answering survey questions honestly, without fear that their name will be attached to information they provide.

What if I don’t want to answer one of the questions?

None of the survey questions are “required.” Those taking the survey may answer all or none of the questions. However, the more questions answered in the survey, the more useful the survey is to the Library.

I think something is missing from the survey, do I just tell you?

You can tell us, or you can suggest a change to the survey in the eighth question: “What suggestions (if any) would you give us so we can better serve you?” You may also contact us using phone numbers or our online contact form available at: http://www.daviscountyutah.gov/library/about-us/contact-us.
