Deputy Shane Archibald has been with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office for 10 ½ years. Before the Sheriff’s Office he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Salt Lake, Clearfield and Ogden. He became involved with the Sheriff’s Office after working as a volunteer firefighter for Riverdale Fire Dept. and training a as a Medic in the Army Reserve.
Deputy Shane Archibald has worked in every division at the Office including the Ambulance, Correction, Civil, Courts, and Patrol. He is a certified paramedic in the state of Utah and he was a SWAT team member for a number of years. He is currently assigned to the Special Services division as the School Resource Officer (SRO) and D.A.R.E. officer for West Point Junior High Shool. He is the Vice-President for the Utah State DARE Officer’s Association. He works with the Search and Rescue Team and Mobile Command Response Teams.
Deputy Archibald grew up in Davis County, went to the local schools and loves his community. He is married with 3 boys and still lives here in Davis County. He enjoys running, hiking, skiing, baseball and time with the family.
The greatest part of being a DARE/SRO officer for Deputy Archibald is the kids. They are full of energy, constantly ask questions, or come up with new ideas for him to talk about. "They are the future and it is an honor to help teach them."

SRO Responsibilities at West Point Junior High
The D.A.R.E. School Resource Officer (SRO) at West Point Junior High School is responsible for coordinating with teachers the opportunity to go into classrooms and present the D.A.R.E. curriculum to 8th grade students. It has been called Advanced D.A.R.E. and the program is entitled "Take Charge of Your Life." It consist of a presentation that involves the students in gaining a stronger understanding of the harmful affects of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and other harmful substances. It discusses commercialism, trends, and ways to deal with the peer pressure associated with these substances.
The School Resource Officer (SRO) is responsible by contract between the Sheriff’s Office, Davis School District and West Point City to provide security to the students at West Point Junior High School. This is done through discussion with teachers and staff about crime trends and problems in the communities to be aware of, training seminars, quarterly drills with the administration (e.g. fire drills, earthquake drills, evacuations and lock downs).
The officer works closely with school administrators to revise safety plans and look for potential problems, hazards or threats at the school or on the school property that could harm students or staff. The officer is a resource for the school and students to talk to about questionable criminal matters. The officer presents discussions with the students continually about bullying, harassment, and fighting. The officer also does a presentation to 7th graders called "Law Related Education"; this is an approximately 10 week course where students and the officer discuss concepts about how officers do their jobs, why they do them the way they do, and laws that will affect the students through the "juvenile years" (e.g. – theft, curfew, assault, controlled substance possession/use, etc.).
