Canyon Patrol

In cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service, the Davis County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for patrolling all canyons in Davis County along the Wasatch Front in the Uintah-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.

Canyon Patrol is dedicated to helping the public safely enjoy recreation in the wilderness area of Davis County.  We are responsible for rescuing those in distress, locating the lost, protecting wildlife and preserving the natural state of the wilderness areas.

Assistance is given to the Utah Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on Antelope Island, Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management area and other wildlife preserves.  The unique canyon environment presents a need for a variety of specialized skills.  To help the Canyon Patrol perform their duties safely and efficiently, they receive training specific to wilderness survival, patrol techniques, and search and rescue.

Canyon Patrol is responsible for acting as a liaison with other agencies involved with incidences in these wilderness areas, i.e., Search and Rescue, helicopter services, fire departments, U.S. Forest Service and DNR.  In the event of an incident, a Canyon Patrol deputy conducts an assessment and information is disseminated to other responding units.  Efforts between the different entities are coordinated throughout the incident to ensure a smooth operation.
