Following public hearings and community input, the Davis County Commission approved a 14.9% property tax increase for the County's general fund portion of property taxes to be paid in 2026. This was the first truth in taxation hearing for the Davis County general fund since 2016.
The approved increase addresses the impact of 32% cumulative inflation since 2016, which has significantly reduced the County's purchasing power to maintain essential services required by State law. The increase will generate approximately $7.7 million in additional revenue annually.
What this means for residents:
- The 14.9% increase applies only to the Davis County general fund portion of property tax bills, not the entire property tax amount.
- For a home valued at $500,000, the annual increase will be approximately $64 in additional county taxes.
- Approximately 2/3 of the general fund provides public safety and criminal justice services, with the remainder funding other offices and functions required by State law.
- The 2026 budget includes restructured payroll benefits and does not fund requests for expenses not required by State law.
