Deputy Sam Boyd - Life Saving Medal
img

On May 21, 2025, Deputy Sam Boyd responded to an emergency involving a female who was involved in a lawn mowing accident. The information provided by Dispatch stated this was a "68- year-old female whose lawn mower had cut off part of her heel, there was SERIOUS bleeding, and amputated parts had not been found." Within four minutes from the original dispatched call, Deputy Boyd arrived and analyzed the scene, recognized the serious nature of the incident, and applied a tourniquet. He maintained command of the scene, remaining calm and professional while caring for the patient, eventually applying a second tourniquet, and providing updates to Dispatch. Deputy Boyd's quick response, assessment, and professional execution of applying the tourniquets likely saved the patient from further trauma, but also potentially saved her life.

Deputies Finley, Wheelwright, and Silver - Life Saving Medal
img

On June 7, 2025, Deputy Vanessa Finley discovered an unresponsive inmate during the morning headcount. Deputy Finley immediately called for urgent medical assistance. The inmate was motionless on his bunk, appearing lifeless. Wellpath nurses Craig and Sharon P. were the first to arrive, and began lifesaving measures. Deputies Kirk Silver and Colton Wheelwright followed close behind. These four moved the inmate from the bunk to the floor so they could administer CPR more effectively. RN Craig led the resuscitation efforts, initiating chest compressions and issuing clear, decisive instructions to everyone present. His calm and direct approach was instrumental in maintaining focus and coordination during the highly stressful incident. Following RN Craig, Deputy Wheelwright took over chest compressions, continuing lifesaving efforts, and was eventually relieved by RN Morgan. Deputy Silver played a vital role in maintaining head control and assisting RN Sharon D. with the bag valve mask to ensure adequate ventilation. Deputy Finley's contribution was equally significant. She contacted Dispatch, requesting emergency medical services. She commenced the meticulous documentation of the scene, initiated the crime scene log, and promptly notified the crime scene investigator. She also prepared the documentation and required equipment for the transport team. The collective and coordinated actions of these seven individuals were pivotal in saving the inmate's life. Their swift response, coupled with their knowledge and skills, ensured that the inmate received the necessary medical intervention without delay. This timely and effective care played a crucial role in saving the inmate's life.
