IMPORTANT
2022 Water Drought
img

Utah’s water is complex. We are the second driest state in the nation and on top of that we are in a drought.

No single agency oversees water in Utah. Weber Basin Water Conservancy District is the regional water supplier in our area. They provide water to various cities, water districts and irrigation companies in Davis County. Secondary water, the unfiltered water used for outdoor landscaping and gardening, is available to some residents in Davis County, depending on location and which water district, city, or irrigation company provides that service. These water providers are separate entities and are not controlled by Davis County Government.

Who is my secondary water provider?

Current forecasts have Davis County operating under the “Severe” drought levels including the following restrictions:

  • Delay secondary water to mid-May
  • No watering between 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
  • No more than ONE watering per week.
  • One day a week hand watering of established trees and shrubs
  • New landscapes must adhere to watering restrictions
  • No hosing down sidewalks or driveways
  • 40% reduction of water for agricultural use
  • 60% reduction of water for outdoor irrigation of lawns and gardens
  • 10% reduction of water for culinary indoor use
  • Early shutoff of secondary water in mid-September

We are all stewards of natural resources and should be conservation-minded. Rebates are available for:

  • Smart Irrigation Controllers
  • Replacement Toilets in homes older than 1994
  • Flip your Strip - replacing the grass in park-strip areas

Davis County is trying to conserve water in various ways including reconsideration of landscape options for the renovation of the Memorial Courthouse. Grass areas that were originally planned will be put on hold.

As we all work to save water we are hopeful that our efforts will benefit future generations and preserve the magnificent Great Salt Lake.
