Pedometers

Wearing a Pedometer
  • Wear the pedometer on your clothing waistband or belt 2-4 inches on either side of your bellybutton.
  • Make sure the pedometer is straight and not at an angle, worn close to your body, with the cover closed.
  • People not wearing a belt or clothes with a waistband can put the pedometer on their undergarments or bra.
  • If you have a large stomach, place the pedometer on the side of your hip.
  • When you first put on your pedometer, check that it is working properly. Walk 100 steps. Your pedometer should register between 90 and 110 steps. If not, adjust the position of your pedometer and check it again.
  • Wear your pedometer all day, except when you are bathing or swimming.
  • Take off your pedometer when you go to bed. Put it back on first thing in the morning.
  • Pedometers will not register activities such as cycling, swimming, or weight lifting. See the step equivalent chart.
