Medicaid Aging Waiver Program
Because the older population is increasing not only in numbers
but in longevity, their need for long-term care services
increases. The waiver allows state Medicaid agencies to
cover services not otherwise available under Medicaid for
individuals who would be in an institution without these
services. Services beyond those currently available will
allow these older adults to retain some level of independence
and a greater quality of life by enabling them to remain in
their own homes. The HCBS Aging waiver provides clients
with the option of extending available long-term care services
to the client's home and community.
Who is eligible?
In order to be eligible for the Aging waiver a person must be
- 65 years of age or older
-
Medicaid eligible (based on special institutional and
spousal impoverishment guidelines)
- At a frailty level that meets nursing home admission guidelines
Eligible clients will be offered a choice between receiving home
and community-based services, or relocating to a nursing home.
