Physical Activity
From heart disease and stroke prevention, to better mental health and a longer life, the benefits of physical activity have been known for years.
Physical activity is a key element to any weight loss program and comes in a variety of forms: walking, cycling, swimming, dancing, and golfing, just to name a few.
Recommendations
The following are current recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control.
- 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) a week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity (i.e., brisk walking) OR
- 75 minutes (1 hour 15 minutes) a week of vigorous intensity aerobic activity (i.e., jogging) OR
- An equivalent mix of moderate and vigorous intensity aerobic activity.
- Adults should also be including muscle strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week.
- 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of physical activity each day.
