Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP)
Staff and volunteers help seniors with Medicare, Medicaid, and some Social Security questions. They also provide information about regulations and coverage. There is no cost for these services.
Medicare Parts A, B, and D
Anyone needing information regarding enrollment into any Medicare program, including people who are new to Medicare (initial enrollment period begins three months before a person’s 65th birthday month, the birthday month itself and the three months following), or any individual currently receiving Medicare benefits may receive counseling.
Open enrollment allows people to reevaluate their personal needs and change plans
if they desire. Open enrollment for Part D is November 15-December 31 of each
year and open enrollment for all Advantage plans (most of which include Part D)
is January 1-March 31 of each year.
A web-based screening tool assists with the Medigap plan with a stand-alone
Part D plan or an Advantage plan (most of which include the Part D plan)
enrollment process. This simple, easy to use Medicare Health Care or Prescription Drug Plan Finder website is designed to help qualifying people
choose the program that is best for them. The secure website helps people
find out which plan offers the best coverage based upon individual
circumstances and medication needs. Health coverage needs as well as
medication cost comparisons are available on the website. Specific
medication and dosage can be entered directly into the secure website
allowing better results based upon an individual’s personalized searches.
Based on the personal information entered, the secure website brings up all of the possible plan options available for enrollment. Three different plans can be compared at the same time. The plans can be sorted by plan name, estimated annual cost, annual deductible, monthly drug premium or monthly drug cost.
Online enrollment is another convenient feature of this website.
People needing additional assistance in screening various Medicare plans should call one of the Davis County Health Department phone numbers listed in the top right "Contact Information" box.
