Home Delivered Meals Program (Meals on Wheels)

The Home Delivered Meals (Meals on Wheels) Program helps older people remain independent in their homes by providing one or more nutritious meals per day to eligible individuals unable to manage their own meal preparation. Special diets for health reasons, prescribed by a physician, can also be provided. Meals are delivered up to 5 days a week.

Eligibility

By regulation, the need for Home Delivered and Take-out Meals must be assessed. The degree and nature of an illness, disability, or isolation determines if homebound or take-out meals are needed, and if so, how often.

Criteria

• Must be a resident of Davis County and homebound.
• Those who are 60 years of age and their spouses, any age.
• Those who would have to be admitted to a nursing home if meals were not provided.
• Those convalescing, following discharge from a hospital.
• Those who are physically handicapped by arthritis, blindness, crippling conditions, amputations, etc., and have no other means of obtaining meals.
• Those who have recently lost a spouse and who temporarily need the support of nutritious meals.
• Those who have an emotional problem that would prohibit their participation at a congregate meal site.
• Those who lack the ability to provide adequate meals for themselves, but who are capable of living in their own homes or apartments.
• Those whose family members may be in need of respite care.

Donations

There is a suggested donation of $3.00 per meal or a monthly fee for those who are considered low income. Donations go towards continued support of the program. Contributions help expand the service and serve more seniors.
