Job Description

General Purpose
Under general supervision from a Senior Center Coordinator or other administrative supervisor, operates a van for the purpose of transporting passengers and meals within Davis County.
Example of Duties
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class.) Transports county senior citizens to and from home or other residence to various senior center, activities, and medical appointments. Takes citizens grocery shopping; aides citizens in safely getting in and out of the vehicle. Cleans and fuels vans. Informs of need for maintenance and repairs on vehicle. Maintains appropriate temperature and cleanliness within the vehicle; responsible for preventative maintenance on the transport vehicles. Keeps accurate records of mileage; records number of clients picked up and taken home daily. Operates a motor vehicle in a safe manner and in compliance with all Utah laws and regulations. Performs related duties as assigned; other duties may include assisting in the senior centers at meal time, assisting with meal clean-up, activities, events, answering phones, etc.
Education and Experience
High school graduation (or equivalent). Preference for experience driving a multi-passenger vehicle or bus transporting passengers.
Special Qualifications
Must pass a criminal history background investigation. Must be at least 21 years old. Must possess or obtain immediately upon hiring, a valid Utah Class A, B, or C Commercial Driver License, and must also possess or obtain a passenger endorsement. Must possess or obtain immediately upon hiring, a valid DOT medical card. Must have a clean driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations within the last three (3) years. Must possess or obtain immediately upon hiring, a current Davis County Food Handler’s permit. Employees driving a personal vehicle while on county business must maintain the minimum vehicle liability insurance as specified in the Utah Code.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of vehicle operation and driving regulations. This position may require the driving of a motor vehicle; skill in operating a motor vehicle in a safe manner; ability to insure motor vehicle is operating in a safe manner; knowledge of Utah motor vehicle rules and regulations. Ability to: operate a multi-passenger vehicle in a safe and efficient manner including making decisions regarding safe operation and precautionary measures of a vehicle in adverse weather conditions; maintain driving logs and records; knowledge of basic vehicle preventive maintenance procedures; assist passengers into and out of vehicle; lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; follow written and oral instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, and senior citizens.
Important Information

Current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and proof of automobile insurance must be submitted with application; applicants with a Utah driver's license can obtain an MVR through the State Driver’s License Division or through Human Resources.
