History of the Davis County Library System

1946

Davis County Library established.  Helen Gibson becomes the first Library Director.  The Library is housed in Davis High School in Kaysville.

1947-1960

Small branch libraries established in Bountiful, Farmington, Layton, Clearfield, and Syracuse.

1964

Headquarters Library opens in Farmington.  This library also serves as the processing center for all Davis County school libraries until 1970.

1970

Bountiful (South) Branch Library opens.  Helen Gibson retires and Jeanne Layton becomes Library Director.

1975

Clearfield (North) Branch Library opens replacing previous branches in Layton, Syracuse, and Clearfield.

1988

Layton (Central) Branch Library opens.

1991

Jeanne Layton retires and Pete Giacoma becomes Library Director.

2000

Bountiful (South) Branch Library is remodeled, children’s department moves into the basement.

2002

Layton (Central) Branch Library remodeled and expanded.

2003

2006

Centerville Branch Library opens.  Kaysville City Library joins the County library system.  The Kaysville Library is remodeled and reopens as the Kaysville Branch.

2008

Pete Giacoma retires and Chris Sanford becomes Library Director.

2012

New Headquarters Library in Farmington opens.

2015

New Kaysville Branch Library opens.
