Public Internet Information

If you have any questions, please visit or call any of our locations and ask for help at the Reference Desk

Accessing Public Internet computers

  • Public Internet computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Each patron may use Public Internet computers for a maximum of 3 hours per day. This is a "per person" limit, regardless of the number of accounts or guest passes obtained. Patrons using the Library's wireless network are not subject to this limit.
  • The Public Internet computers are divided into different areas based on usage types (not all types are available at all branches):
    • Multi-Purpose computers (30 Minute sessions) are to be used for casual/personal purposes. Examples of these uses include but are not limited to: social media, shopping, personal email, entertainment, or games. If there is a question whether your use qualifies please inquire at the reference desk.
    • Children’s computers (30 minute sessions) are intended for multi-purpose use  (see above) by children in the children’s area.
    • Information computers (60 minute sessions) are to be used for research/educational purposes. Examples of these uses include but are not limited to: job applications, tests, homework, resumes, court documents, genealogy, and use of online references.  If there is a question whether your use qualifies please inquire at the reference desk.
  • Access to Multi-Purpose and Children’s Internet computers is based on 30-minute sessions. This means that patrons will generally wait no longer than 30 minutes for access to this group of computers. It also means that, once signed in, patrons may reasonably expect 30 minutes of uninterrupted access to a Multi-Purpose or Children’s Internet computer. Similarly, patrons may generally expect no more than 60 minutes of wait time for and 60 minutes of uninterrupted access to Information Internet computers.
  • If no one is waiting at the end of a 30 or 60-minute session, a patron's time may be extended for another 30 or 60-minute session. Time will not be extended when other patrons are waiting, or beyond the daily 3-hour limit.

Using Public Internet Computers

  • Each computer is connected to a printer. Cost of printing is $.05 per page. Prints are black and white; color printing is not available.
  • When finished, please click on “End Session.” Please do not log off, turn off, or restart the computer.
  • Since public Internet computers are not encrypted or secured, personal financial data is not protected. All uses and transactions are conducted at the user's risk.
  • Illegal activity is not allowed.
  • Patrons may not display images or visual depictions that are harmful to minors, as established in Utah State Code 76-10-1201. For further policy and guidelines regarding this limitation, please see our Public Internet Access Policy, Internet Access for Minors Policy, and Appropriate Use of Public Internet.
