Davis County Adoption Program Information
Thank you for your interest in adopting a Pet from Davis County
Animal Services. Adoption of a new pet can be a very emotional
experience, filled with love and great expectations. There are many
practical considerations that will make a pet owning experience successful
for you and your new pet. Before you proceed with you decision,
there are some things we want you to carefully consider, and information
we want to share with you.
Each year, we are forced to euthanize thousands of unwanted pets in
our community. There are two major reasons for this; pet
overpopulation and irresponsible pet owners. Since this grave responsibility
is ours, we reserve the right to choose where the pets under our care
are placed. If you are serious about making a "lifetime commitment", we
hope you will take the time to check out the animals at our shelter, and
we will do our best to find the perfect, healthy pet for you.
A wide variety of Domestic Pets are available for
adoption at the shelter. To view the "Pets of the Week", click here.
Those interested in adopting an animal from our shelter are welcome to
come to the shelter and view the animals at any time during our normal
business hours (8-5p.m., M-F). Adoption transactions are done from 9:00 A.M. to
5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. Our office is closed on Saturday & Sunday.
Spay/Neuter fees are paid at the time of adoption. This fee is
$55.00 for dogs and $45.00 for cats. In addition, there is a $10.00
purchase fee. We require that all of the dogs and cats adopted from our
shelter be spayed or neutered. The cost of this surgery is included in
the adoption fee. A certificate is issued to the animal owner,
and is valid at all of the Veterinarians in Davis County, as well as most
Veterinarians throughout the State of Utah.
If you are a resident of Davis County, you will be required to purchase
a license for your dog at the time of adoption. Because your dog
will be sterilized, the cost of this license is $10.00.
We do not adopt dogs or cats that have a history of biting, or who
display other forms of aggressive behavior.
Potential adopters will be required to complete an Adoption
application, and will be interviewed by an Adoption Specialist. The
adoption process can normally be completed in less than an hour, once a
pet is selected.
Fences are required for large dogs, and we will verify an adequate
fence before an adoption is granted. We require written
authorization from property owners, before pets are adopted to owners
living in "rental properties". Providing all of the appropriate
information at the time of application will help to facilitate a "quick
and successful" adoption.
We reserve the right to "refuse an adoption" based on information
obtained in the application, interview or failure to comply with adoption
requirements, including confinement and sterilization.
Our staff will provide you with as much
information as possible at the time of your adoption. You will be
embarking on a lifetime commitment that will determine the fate of your
new pet.
PLEASE, DON'T TAKE THIS DECISION LIGHTLY!
We are here to help!
