According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four older adults (65+) falls each year. Along with causing injury, falls are costly to treat at $50 billion annually (2017). However, falls aren’t something that just happens when you age, there are ways to reduce falls. It is proven that exercise focusing on leg strength and balance can help.
Tai Chi for Arthritis is a proven evidence based program that is effective at preventing falls. With consistent practice, this ancient exercise has been shown to improve balance, increase muscular strength, improve mobility, increase flexibility, improve psychological health, prevent falls, and decrease pain. This is accomplished through 3 main principles: movement control, weight transference, and integration of mind and body. For people with or without arthritis, Tai Chi for Arthritis/ Health is a good way to start your journey to better health.
