Meet Our Team

Under the Direction of the Director of Animal Care the members of our management team are specifically responsible for different aspects of our community based organization.

Ashleigh Young - Director

Biography: If you love your job, there is no such thing as work, and when it comes to working with animals, there are few things Ashleigh loves more. Ashleigh has been working professionally in the animal field for the past 9 years and started as the Operation Manager at Animal Care of Davis County in June of 2020. She was promoted to Deputy Director in April of 2021, and Director in October of 2021.  She holds a bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Oregon State University and is Fear Free certified, as well as an approved AKC Canine Good Citizen assessor and holds her CPDT-KA. 

Ashleigh has one dog currently, a 3 year old English Springer Spaniel, Pepper.  Ashleigh has trialed and trained in CPE agility, rally, obedience and K9 Nose Work both personally and professionally.  Ashleigh has many topics she is passionate about - she is an avid knitter, gardener, loves to bake, and is found hitting the trails most weekends with Pepper.

Sydney Larrabee - Deputy Director


Sydney has known that she wanted to work in the animal industry since age 14, when she decided she was going to become an Animal Control Officer. In high school, she completed an internship with Animal Care of Davis County. She was hired on in 2016 as a Shelter Technician, made her way up to Animal Control Officer, became the interim Adoption Specialist, and was then promoted to Shelter Services Supervisor in late 2019. Her promotion to Deputy Director followed in May of 2022.

Sydney has a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Weber State University. When not at the shelter, she spends her time with her pit bull (adopted from ACDC in 2013) and kitties. She loves to surround herself with animals and is very dedicated to her position at ACDC.

Bryan Smith - Field Supervisor


Bryan Smith has been employed with Animal Care of Davis County for 20 years.  He serves as the Secretary for the Utah Animal Control Officers Association Board.  He supervises 10 Animal Control Officers and is the supervisor for all field operations with Animal Care. He has been involved with developing rabies protocols with the Utah Department of Health and Davis County Health Department to ensure that testing procedures are clear and understood.  He sits on the One Health Board and communicates with other officers and personnel, as well as other organizations to help everyone understand what is needed to understand rabies and other zoonotic diseases.
