Library Updates

Central Branch Repaint & Update

by Joshua Johnson | Feb 06, 2019
Central Branch has undergone a lot of updating and beautification in recent months.

In late 2017, we updated carpet in the front lobby and auditorium and added tile around drinking public drinking fountains. At the same time, the men’s and women’s bathrooms were fully remodeled. (See pictures below; click on pictures to enlarge.)

In mid-2018, Central Branch got a new roof and, in late 2018, the rest of the branch was painted and carpeted to match the auditorium and foyer areas. At one point Central Branch had tables full of books in the central space in the middle of the library along with the shelving carts for circulation staff and people kept asking if we were having a book sale.

Carpeting the rest of Central Branch’s public service areas required the use of machines to lift and move each shelf (with the books still on them!) in order to lay carpet underneath.  The carpet crews did a fantastic job working while we were closed so the Library could still offer services to the public. Crews lifted and moved shelves, installed carpeting, and cleaned up so that it seemed like new carpet was magically pooling and spreading beneath our feet.

We appreciate the public’s willingness to adapt to small changes throughout the year while we completed the process. We think the end result was worth all our combined effort.
