Sheriff Kelly Sparks is a life-long resident of Davis County. He and his wife Lori have been married for 26 years. He is the father four wonderful boys and an amazing daughter. The kids are all grown now; three are married, starting families of their own and providing Kelly and Lori with one of life’s greatest blessings – five wonderful grandchildren.
Sheriff Sparks started his law enforcement career at the Davis County Jail in 1983. After graduating from the Utah Police Academy and Weber State Paramedic School he worked in patrol as a deputy sheriff/paramedic. Working through the ranks he served in every division at the Sheriff’s Office. Kelly served in several specialty assignments. He was a SWAT Commander, a Hostage Negotiator, Public Information Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, EMT instructor and a Flight Paramedic for Intermountain Life Flight. He also served four years as Chief Deputy at the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
After working at the Sheriff’s Office for 23 years, Kelly moved on to become Director of the Police Academy at Weber State University. Two years later he went to work for the State of Utah after being appointed Deputy Director of Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training. He served as Deputy Director at POST for over ten years, training officers throughout the state and overseeing investigations into peace officer misconduct.
In the fall of 2018 Kelly was elected Sheriff of Davis County and he took office in January of 2019.
Sheriff Sparks has a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Weber State University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
