Volunteer

Below you will find information about Library's volunteer opportunities.

Code of Conduct Policy Handbook

We Love our Volunteers!

Library Volunteers provide much needed support for professionally trained librarians and staff throughout the library system.  As a library volunteer you would work under the supervision of library staff providing assistance with a wide range of tasks that could include;

  • Shelving of materials
  • Cleaning and straightening of shelves
  • Clerical support
  • Storytimes
  • Helping at library programs

We, as the library, would strive to make your time volunteering at the library a positive and meaningful experience as your time is important to us and all volunteers are a vital asset to the library system.  Volunteering at the library offers a wide range of benefits from the development of skills to the satisfaction of providing a much needed service to your community.

Library volunteers must be over the age of 14.  Minors that wish to volunteer at the library must have parent or guardian consent before they can be approved as library volunteers.

Due to limited volunteer capacity and the required oversight for group volunteer work the library requires at least two to three weeks' notice for group volunteers and not all group projects will be approved.  Please contact your local branch to discuss group projects prior to submitting the volunteer form. Those volunteering as part of a group project must be supervised by a qualified and responsible non-staff adult.

Court Ordered Community Service

If you have been court-ordered by a judge to complete community service hours as part of your sentence and you would like to volunteer at the library, apply here.

While we are happy to assist you in fulfilling your service hours, not all applicants will be approved nor can we guarantee that we can fulfill all of your service hours.  We cannot accept applicants charged with abuse, domestic violence, theft, animal cruelty or sexually related crimes.

Specialty Volunteers

The Library has a long tradition of involving members of the public in our children’s storytimes, and we sometimes use volunteers at some of our events. Specialty volunteers may also be required to receive training prior to serving as a volunteer.

Because these types of volunteers are often directly with children, and their conduct reflects on the Library’s reputation with the community, their role in Library services is limited, and they may also be subject to background checks.
