Bio:
When we adopted ivy 2 years ago, she was very skittish around men and would just curl up into a ball and sleep. She didn't know how to play or accept affection. It seems that she was kenneled a lot and someone was abusive toward her. She was very sensitive to our tone of voice, and even now still is. She now plays, shows and accepts affection and loves being praised. She is good with other dogs, but really loves cats. She is not very good around horses and has no fear of them kicking her, which she should! she is not a barker unless someone is knocking or coming around the house or driveway. She talks a lot, much like huskies do and it's easy to get her howling on purpose and quite funny too. Her nicknames are "puppy" "pup" or "wiggle butt". She doesn't chew and is housetrained. Her only is issue is wanting to be free to roam. We moved from 80 acres in the country to an apartment and this means if you don't have a yard with a good fence, she'll find a way out, but not through digging; she's just smart. She doesn't eat from bowls and dishes she shouldn't and she's a quick learner. We are not willing to give her to just anyone. We love ivy and will not let her go to a questionable home. When i'm on walks with her i've had people ask to adopt her if we ever need a home for her. Until now, there hasn't been a need. We are going to be in this apartment for at least two years and that's not fair to ivy. I would like to see someone take her that has room for her, or at least a large yard. She has a very loud bark, but has never bitten anyone (that we know of). She loves the vacuum. If you vacuum, she will pick an all out fight with it! other characteristics are: -she will not eat raw meat unless it's cut into pieces -she moves between sleeping on my bed and the couch at night -she doesn't like or use a traditional dog bed -she is kennel trained, although we don't use one with her -she prefers our cat's food over her own, but we make her eat hers -she loves basking in the sun even on really hot days -she behaves abused-keep this in mind when working with her -she is now much better with men -if you have a litter of kittens, she will try to take and care for them as her own and will carry then around as her own babies -again, she is not very good with large animals like horses or cows: cows easily put her in her place, but horses are a little more tolerant. . . . Until they aren't -she never bothered the donkeys -she loves goats and thinks they are dogs. -of course, she is good with kids. Our landlord has children and will tell you ivy is just fine with them -she is territorial and protective -she loves peanut butter -although she is a weimaraner, she is calm like a labrador -she is very, very sweet -i have always given her scraps of food from dinner or other things, so she is a bit of a beggar, but if you tell her to go "lay down", she will (although she'll act like you just denied her the last morsel of food on earth!) -she knows how to sit in a circle with the family and pray -on walks, she only responds to a choke collar, unfortunately if someone decides to adopt her, we can do a trial run and see how she adapts and if the new owner decides it's not working, we will take her back! i will also require that i be allowed to come and visit to see how she is doing. I would rather keep her here in this 900 s. F. Apartment than have her go to a bad home. If interested, please contact laroux at 719-468-6135.
