Gillmor Sanctuary: Behind the Gates with Kevin Karlson

Join keynote speaker Kevin Karlson for a private behind the gates tour of Gillmor Sanctuary.

Description

Join us for a private behind the gates tour of National Audubon Society's Gillmor Sanctuary that is not accessible to the general public. Located on the south east shore of Great Salt Lake, Gillmor Sanctuary is a 3,500 acre complex of shallow wetlands, grasslands, and shrublands managed for shorebirds. You can expect to see a variety of breeding and migratory shorebirds species, dabbling ducks, grassland songbirds, and raptors. During the trip we will discuss what it takes to manage wetlands and go over some of the ongoing restoration and conservation work at the sanctuary.

Depending on road conditions the trip will either be primarily driving and stopping for short walks from the van, or little driving and ~2 miles of walking if road conditions are very muddy. Guests should plan to bring binoculars, spotting scope (if you own one), water, snacks, sunscreen, hiking boots, pants, long sleeve shirt, sunglasses, and a hat. There can be abundant biting insects this time of year so plan to cover up in loose fitting clothing.

*Ticket includes head net.
