FAQs - The Festival

The Great Salt Lake Bird Festival is the biggest Bird Festival in the state of Utah. Field trips take place all across the Wasatch Front, with the opportunity to spot over 150 different species of birds.
There are over 60 different field trips attendees can choose from ranging from a few hours of birding to full-day trips!

We have field trips for all birding skill levels and activity levels! Each field trip description will include if the offering is suitable for Beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced Birders, or even Families with Children.

The Activity Level Key is:

- Accessible (Entire trip is fully accessible for festival-goers in wheelchairs or with limited mobility)

- Easy (0.5 miles or less walking on flat or paved surfaces)

- Moderate (Up to 2 miles walking with less than 250 feet elevation change on well-maintained trails or surfaces)

- Active (2-3 miles walking or hiking with 250-500 feet of elevation gain on trails OR involving cycling or kayaking)

Field trip meeting locations will be updated regularly leading up to the Festival and available for viewing on the Meeting Locations page of the website. Please view here and scroll until you find your field trip number and name.

Trips do not include food and beverage so please be prepared to bring your own water, snacks, and/or meal.

Rain or shine, field trips will take place outside. Please be prepared with appropriate clothing and gear - we always recommend layers!
In addition to a variety of field trips, please join us for a free opening night social & speaker, educational workshops, family day activities & live birds, student art contest, and a keynote address & dinner.
