COVID-19 Booster

On Monday, September 27th, Davis County Health Department (DCHD) reopens its drive-thru COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at the Legacy Events Center in Farmington, it will offer a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine to those who are eligible. For the week of September 27th, the hours will be 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Then, starting the week of October 4th, the hours will be 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Appointments are required and can now be scheduled throughout the month of October.

County-wide Vehicle Repair Assistance Program Helps Reduce Emissions

A new air quality program within Davis County offers financial assistance to repair vehicles unable to pass current emission standards. Davis County Health Department’s Environmental Health Services Division along with UCAIR (Utah Clean Air Partnership) is sponsoring a vehicle repair assistance program to get polluting vehicles back up to emissions standards. The program runs through October 2018.

Create Better Health

Come learn how to help your family eat well, prepare delicious food, and be active on a budget. Davis County WIC partners with Utah State University's Food$ense program to offer this free class series twice a year. Each class includes a recipe demonstration and sample. Car Seat Education Class

A low cost car seat program is available for qualified clients (WIC, Head Start, Medicaid, and similar financial aid programs). Clients are required to take a car seat installation class in conjunction with purchasing a seat.

TOP Star

TOP Star is a Continuing Education Program for childcare providers designed to help providers improve the quality of nutrition and amount of physical activity that children receive in their care.

Medicare 101 Class

Are you turning 65 or preparing to retire? Puzzled about Medicare? Davis County Senior Services recommends spending an hour at a free Medicare 101 class to learn how to take advantage of everything Medicare has to offer. Get answers and information about Medicare enrollment and benefits. Classes are taught in several locations throughout the county including libraries and senior activity centers. Caregiver Support Class

A free series of six workshops that assist family and community caregivers in developing the skills needed to manage an in-home care environment.  Each participant receives a Managing Care Guide. Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that teaches participants how to help a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The help is given until appropriate treatment and support are received or until the crisis resolves.

Connect Suicide Postvention Training

Connect is a training for professionals and communities to prepare them to respond to a suicide attempt or death, in a manner that will promote healing and reduce risk for affected community members. You will learn to strategically encourage help-seeking, reduce stigma, and promote healing for survivors; reduce the risk of suicide-related phenomena (contagion, copy-cat, and pacts); and use safe messaging in communications such as media reporting, funerals, memorials, etc. 

Duration: 3 hours

SafeTALK Suicide Prevention Training

SafeTALK is a 3 hour training workshop, featuring: Training to identify persons with thoughts of suicide, & community first aid resources to connect them to help; Awareness of reasons that we may miss, dismiss, or avoid signs of suicide; The simple yet effective steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, and KeepSafe; and Hands-on skills practice and development. Now approved for 3 Social Work CEUs.

Duration: 3 Hours 
Group Size: 10 – 30 max

Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) Training

Learn how to prevent suicide by using QPR to: Ask Questions to assess the situation; Persuade the person to accept help; and Refer the person to a professional for help to get them through the crisis and treat any underlying mental illness. Like CPR, QPR is a simple process that anyone can be trained to use, to help prevent a suicidal act. Participants learn how to recognize the warning signs for someone who may be at risk for suicide, and then get them to appropriate help. 

Duration: 1.5 hours
Group Size: generally 10-35

Licensed Pool Operator

To provide and maintain a healthy and safe pool environment, a pool must be operated under the direct supervision of a Licensed Swimming Pool/Spa Operator (LPO) who holds a current LPO permit issued by the Division. A Licensed Pool Operator class is held annually. To find out more about schedule and cost call (801) 525-5100.

Food Handler Permit

Individuals that work in facilities that prepare or serve food are required to obtain a Utah Food Handler Permit. Permits are obtained after successfully completing an in-person or on-line state approved training course.

Public Health Merit Badge

Davis County Health Department can assist Boy Scouts who want to earn the Public Health Merit Badge. Call (801) 525-5212 for more information or to schedule a health department visit for your troop.

 

Sexually Transmitted Disease/HIV Presentation

Davis County Health Department is available to provide a one hour STD presentation to community agencies and youth groups. Call (801) 525-5200 to schedule a presentation.

Bloodborne Pathogen

Option 1: A free bloodborne pathogen class is held every third Tuesday of the month at 2:00 p.m. in the Davis County Health Department, 22 South State Street, Clearfield. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers and other individuals who need to meet an annual OSHA requirement for bloodborne pathogen training are welcome. To sign up for a class call (801) 525-5213.
 
Option 2: Bloodborne pathogen classes may also be offered at the worksite for community agencies. The cost is a flat rate of $100 per organization. To schedule a class for your employees at the location of your choice call (801) 525-5213.

EnhanceFitness is an evidence-based group exercise program that helps older adults at all levels of fitness become more active, energized, and empowered to sustain independent lives. A full hour of fun, EnhanceFitness focuses on dynamic cardiovascular exercise, strength training, balance, and flexibility — everything older adults need to maintain health and function as they age.

You're invited to join a free workshop!

If you have any long-term/chronic health condition that has taken over your life, or if you care for someone with a long-term/chronic health condition, the Living Well with Chronic Conditions class can help!

Living Well with Chronic Conditions is a 6-week program geared towards helping people take back control of their lives. You will learn ways to manage the day-to-day symptoms that most chronic health conditions cause such as fatigue, difficult emotions, sleep changes, and pain. Learn how physical activity and nutrition can help and practice skills to improve understanding and mobility. Work together with other people, who understand what you are going through, to solve problems and achieve goals.
